Still Life with Odd Flowers
Quoting Barthes, quoting Brassai on Mondrian: “There’s a man who paints flowers to live. And why does he want to live? So he can paint straight lines.” The idea of Mondrian painting an odd flower in private so he could surround himself in straight lines set this body of work in motion.

Each work repeats three vases with odd flowers. Painted in reverse on glass, the images were peeled off and transferred onto silk, then draped over painted wooden supports. The sheer, garment-like silk resists the rigid frame beneath. These paintings flirt with still life while playing with its logic, reaching for something more flamboyant and unstable.
